At the core of its performance, the BFMUV-3100 adopts motor-controlled multi-pathlength detection technology, which differs from conventional single or dual-pathlength instruments. It automatically switches among multiple pathlength settings including 0.01 mm, 0.02 mm, 0.05 mm, 0.2 mm and 1.0 mm.
This design supports sample detection from ultra-low to extremely high concentrations, with notable improvements in stability, repeatability and linear range. Thanks to its wide-range optical architecture, the measurable concentration range is over 150 times that of standard UV-Vis spectrophotometers.
Most samples can be tested directly without serial dilution. This eliminates tedious dilution steps and shortens testing time per sample. It also removes systematic errors caused by manual dilution. For precious clinical specimens and trace extracted products, it minimizes sample loss and the risk of cross-contamination during handling.
To protect sensitive biological samples, the instrument uses a pulsed flash light source. The flash duration is extremely short, and the total light exposure is far lower than traditional continuous light sources. This reduces the risk of nucleic acid degradation during testing and preserves sample integrity for subsequent experiments.
This combination of features perfectly matches the demands of busy research and diagnostic labs where efficiency and accuracy are paramount.
Comprehensive Detection Modes
Rich detection modes cover most routine quantification requirements in molecular labs. It supports concentration and purity analysis for dsDNA, ssDNA, total RNA, oligonucleotides and other nucleic acid samples, as well as native and labelled proteins.
After each test, the system automatically calculates key purity ratios such as A260/A280 and A260/A230, helping researchers quickly evaluate sample quality for downstream PCR, qPCR, sequencing and restriction digestion.
Microbiology & Synthetic Biology
For microbiology and synthetic biology workflows, it features an exclusive OD600 optical channel. Combined with cuvette mode, it monitors the concentration of bacterial and yeast cultures. Researchers can track cell growth status accurately for induction, strain passaging and growth curve plotting. One single instrument fulfils quantification needs for both molecular biology and microbiology, saving laboratory budget and bench space.
Advanced Fluorescence Capability
For users facing low-concentration trace samples, the upgraded BFMUV-3100F variant adds fluorescence detection capability. Paired with dedicated fluorescence reagents, it achieves highly specific quantification through binding between fluorescent dyes and target nucleic acids.
The limit of detection for dsDNA reaches 0.5 pg/μL.
Compared with standard UV absorbance methods, fluorescence quantification avoids interference from free nucleotides and protein impurities. It is ideal for NGS library preparation, single-cell nucleic acid samples and limited clinical specimens, greatly expanding the application scope of the platform.
